Roger Ballen (New York, USA, 1950) has solidified his place as one of the world's greatest photographers. Picking up a camera in the late 1960s, Ballen has amassed an extraordinary oeuvre comprised of some of the most arresting and original images ever produced. "Ballenesque"- a term firmly part of the lexicon - is synonymous with his rich monochrome vision, his acute psychological insight, his constant reinvention of his artistic style, and an apt title for his 2017 retrospective show at Reflex Amsterdam.
On the occasion of his first exhibition with the gallery Fraught, the gallery and the artist collaborated closely to produce a collector's edition with a gelatin silver print entitled "Fraught" which is accompanied by a hardcover book with a dust jacket entitled 'Shadow Chamber'.
For his 2011 show, Animal Abstraction, Ballen gave the gallery the rare opportunity to exhibit a selection of his iconic images related to animals for which the gallery made a publication under the same name.
This second edition produced by the gallery on the occasion of the exhibition Animal Abstraction includes one gelatin silver print, signed and numbered entitled 'Cat in Pipe' and one copy of the hardcover book entitled 'Animal Abstraction' with an introduction by Dr. Wim Pijbes.
