Gavin Turk’s etching from the Morandi series reflects his ongoing exploration of the overlooked and discarded elements of our daily lives, elevating the mundane into the realm of fine art. Like his earlier works with refuse bags and matchboxes, this etching focuses on the subtle beauty found in product packaging, imbuing these everyday objects with a sense of significance and depth. Turk’s delicate etching technique captures the intricate details of each packaging item, transforming it from a transient object into a timeless symbol of consumer culture.

Through this work, Turk continues his exploration of “self-portraiture” by cataloging and preserving these objects, offering a glimpse into his personal consumption habits. In The Age of Entanglement exhibition, presented at our gallery from December 7th to February 8th 2025, Turk’s etching, like the accompanying paintings, invites the viewer to reflect on the significance of these objects as traces of human presence and consumption, creating a subtle yet profound commentary on the modern relationship with waste, materialism, and identity.
