Booth G19
Somerset House, London
16 - 19 May 2019
Reflex Amsterdam is looking forward to participating in the 2019 edition of Photo London. The gallery will be attending with a carefully curated presentation of work by Roger Ballen, Todd Hido, Daido Moriyama, and Gavin Turk, who will be a special guest at Photo London this year with his exhibition Portrait of an Egg.
If you happen to be in London that week, please feel welcome to drop by our booth, G19.
Portrait of an Egg, Gavin Turk's exhibition at Photo London, builds on the artist's fascination with the object. Throughout his oeuvre, Turk’s has explored the symbolism of the egg, as well as its role in art, raising questions about the discipline and the role of the artist as a creator. For Portrait of an Egg, Turk has crowd-sourced photographs of eggs, which could be submitted through a website and will be displayed in Turk's installation.
Our booth presentation will include the brand new work, Transit Disaster Black on Pink, Turk's take on Warhol's silkscreen, and a selection of self-portraits. For this series, titled Project Beard, Gavin groomed and cropped his luxuriant beard into the persona's of six historical patricians of 19th & 20th century art.
In addition to a large selection of Ballen's polaroids, which are exclusively sold through Reflex internationally, we will also be premiering Roger Ballen's colour photography worldwide for the first time at Photo London. The photographs, measuring 91 x 91 cm, build on Ballen's unique "Ballenesque" world which combines photography with drawings, collages, paintings, and sculptures.
Additionally, we will also be bringing work by Daido Moriyama, who was recently announced as the winner of the prestigious Hasselblad Award. This will include some of Moriyama's rare polaroids and his beautiful vintage prints from the 1980s.
Finally, we will have a recent selection of Todd Hido's scenic and arresting landscapes from the his latest series Bright Black World on view at our booth. This profoundly beautiful and arresting collection of images are the results of Hido's exploration of the northern hemisphere in the impenetrable depths of winter.
On top of that a selection of works from other artists represented by the gallery will be viewable upon request, including new works by Nobuyoshi Araki and Miles Aldridge.
