2008

“The two enclosed chromogenic prints, spanning almost a 10 year period of my artistic career, were created exclusively for this special edition set.

Starting with “Sergio In Barcelona In Provincetown”, 2005 and going back to Untitled (LUST), 1997. Both of these images reflect my main concerns in art making: the rupturing of the ‘realism’ of the photographic image, and the use of landscape as metaphor. LUST was created by placing white cut-out letters on a hotel window in Las Vegas, creating the illusion that the words were floating in space, a part of the landscape, while at the same time intruding on the landscape, an open-ended poem. The physical qualities of the actual images placed in a new setting creating a temporary installation or performance piece. The camera documents the process itself – hence my decision not to create the work by means of digital manipulation. I instead chose to make what I consider to be ‘real’ photographs. The illusion is revealed at the same time that it is being created.”  Tim Hailand

Tim Hailand was born in Buffalo in 1965. He currently is based in Los Angeles and New York City, traveling often for his work.

He created the book series of “One Day In The Life Of” and dedicated the first 3 titles to Rufus Wainwright, Jake Shears and Daniels Radcliffe. The lately published 4th title of “One Day In The Life Of” (2012) details acclaimed director/creator Robert Wilson’s staged biography of performance artist Marina Abramovic.
